Train your dog to fetch

Playing with your dog in the nature is really relaxing and joyful. You should be able to enjoy this experience at its fullest, so make sure you always take your dog outside and make a little time for him. He won’t be asking for much; whatever time you can spare will be enough, for dogs are very understanding and loving creatures.
How can I easily teach my dog how to fetch?
You should start this training in a small room without any distractions. Your dog has the instinct to run after the object, catch it and then bring it somewhere safe. Use a toy that your dog is interested in and make sure to have some tasty treats hidden in your pocket. Through the rubber toy within a reaching distance for you and then encourage your puppy to go and get it. After he has the toy in his mouth, gently remove it and praise him both verbally and with treat. If at first he won’t be willing to let go of the toy, by showing him the treat or just letting him smell it you should be able to rescue it. You should do this in five minute sessions, two or more times a day.
The next step you should take is trying to add a verbal command to the previous practice. It will encourage and tell your dog what to do until he understands that he has to let go of the toy after he retrieves it. This is quite the behavior you want your dog to have when playing fetch, but it still needs some little adjustments.
The final thing that you have to do is gradually add distractions and throw the toy further and further. With a lot of patience and practice your dog will learn how to correctly play fetch and you will be able to enjoy a nice time in the park, backyard, on the beach and so on.
Will my dog enjoy playing fetch?
Yes, your dog will get excited each time he will see you grab the ball or another object. As I previously said, it is in a dog’s nature to do this type of activity, remnants from ancient times when they used to hunt for a living. Although the instinct exists, your dog might be reluctant at first. Don’t worry, in about two or three days he will learn how to play fetch and he will be more than happy to do it. You should also keep in mind that usually a dog is happy regardless of his activity, if he is able to perform it with you.
