Some Tips For Bathing Your Dog
Everyone baths their dogs differently depending on how they have been taught or how they think that it is best done. But one of the main things that determines how often a dog should be bathed is its type of hair, whether it’s long, silky, curly, or smooth.
If you own a dog like a Poodle or a Shih Tzu that requires more intensive grooming, it might be best to consult with a professional groomer before attempting to do it on your own at first.
Regular bathing of your dog is usually not necessary and if you bath them to much you can actually make their hair coat look dull and dry. Most dogs simply just need brushing at regular intervals to help keep their skin and hair in good condition. This essentially replaces the need for frequent baths.
If you do have to bathe your dog you should brush out any mats beforehand since wet matted hair is often more difficult to manage.
Also you should also get a shampoo that is specifically labeled for dogs.
The pH of dog skin is neutral, usually around 7-7.4, while most human shampoos tend to be more acidic, which are not suitable for use on dogs.
Unless it is a very nice summer day most dog should be bathed inside. Because once the dog gets wet, they can lose body heat quickly and become too cold.
It is also very important that after you’re done shampooing your dog, that you remove all traces of the shampoo from their body. If any residue is left behind it can result in skin irritation and in severe cases hair loss.
Lastly, it is best to dry the dog with hand towels and to avoid hairdryers or a drying cage if possible, because these products can result in heat stress for the dog.

The furminator isn’t to thin his hair, but to get rid of loose hair. If he isn’t gnttieg hair on you, or if it isn’t coming out in a regular brush, it has done its job.
